What is Diabetic Retinopathy?

David M. Chacko, MD, PhD, a vitreous and retina specialist at Grene Vision Group, discusses the harmful effects of diabetes on the eyes. Dr. Chacko says, "With the improving technology we now have, we are saving vision for a lot of people. We have access to laser, surgical tools, and we have a whole number of new drugs that help us control diabetes." Regular eye exams are extremely important for diabetics.

What Are Cataracts?

Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness in the world, but modern cataract surgery usually can restore vision lost to cataracts — and often can reduce your dependence on eyeglasses as well. Terria L. Winn, MD, Grene Vision Group ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, explains what a cataract is, the symptoms, risk factors and treatment.

Double vision is when a person sees a double image where there should only be one. The two images can be side by side, one on top of the other, or both. If double vision affects just one eye, it is monocular. If it affects both eyes, it is binocular. Treatments depend on the cause and type, but they include eye exercises, specially designed glasses and surgery. Michele M. Riggins, MD, Grene Vision Group neuro-ophthalmologist, explains what double vision is, the causes and treatments.
